Lifting Many Voices

Opera is enlivened by difference. Diverse artists, audiences, trustees and staff all bring powerful perspectives to our industry and make opera stronger. An inclusive creative environment thrives on mutual respect and authentic community connections. Through personal reflection and teamwork, our field is moving forward — with much more to accomplish.

With your help and that of our host, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, we can learn from inspiring stories, tackle tough issues, embrace our differences and champion the diversity of our communities.

Lend your unique perspective to Opera Conference 2018, and together we’ll make opera stronger.

About Opera Conference 2018

OPERA America’s annual conference is the preeminent gathering of opera professionals, artists, trustees and industry stakeholders in North America. More than 500 attendees will gather in St. Louis this June, gaining inspiration, ideas, knowledge and connections to fuel their work throughout the year. Here are five reasons why you should join us in St. Louis.

Meaningful, lasting connections

Conference attendees represent every aspect of our art form at all levels of experience. Over four days of sessions and social events, you’ll meet colleagues who share your challenges and motivations and you’ll build relationships that will last long after you return home.

Insight from John Adams

As our keynote speaker, John Adams will launch the conference by sharing the inspirations that have influenced his work and underpinned his commitment to bringing resonant stories to the opera stage.

Important, timely content

In dozens of sessions, we’ll tackle themes crucial to the field, including spurring civic action, addressing inequity, improving the audience experience, promoting strong governance and encouraging innovation in production. These are conversations you can’t afford to miss!

A multi-faceted perspective on new works

New for Opera Conference 2018, the New Works Forum will feature dedicated breakout sessions for development staff, marketing staff, trustees and other networks to explore all aspects of producing, funding and promoting the expanding American repertoire. All conference attendees are encouraged to participate.
